All Work and No Play?
How we’re helping teams bring a little bit of recess to the workday through virtual comedy
Are you making time for games, laughs, and general fun with your team during the workday?
Our advisor, Dr. Natalie Dattilo, emphasizes the importance of play when considering overall health and wellness
Today, we’re showcasing 3 of our virtual comedy and corporate training experiences to help teams incorporate the concept of play at work: Improv, Juggling & Jokes, and Workday Update
At Laugh.Events, one of our main priorities is to promote having fun on the job. Sounds simple, right? We think so, but many corporate teams often need a little bit of convincing, considering they also have to get work done. What if we told you that a little bit of time for play could actually help you get that work done?
In her feature in The Harvard Gazette earlier this year, Dr. Dattilo speaks about the importance of the concept of play: “The framework that I use includes things like exercise and natural, quality sleep; social connection, things like gratitude practice — these are all things we know work. And one of those categories is play, or pleasure, and laughter is one of the main tools that I use to help people activate the pleasure and reward centers of the brain, to get them to playfully approach life, make time for that sort of activity as an important pillar of health and wellness.”
What are some ways you can play during the workday? Here are a few of our favorite experiences geared toward play:
1. Improv Exercises
Through our Using Humor for Professional Development workshop, your team will engage in a series of improv comedy games encouraging them to loosen up and express ideas freely, even if they might feel a little silly. The improv for business workshops are focused on laughing and taking a break, while instructors will highlight the takeaway skills and lessons for real world application. Want to try out a workshop with your team? We’re offering a free 15-minute virtual session for corporate teams. Reach out here to learn more!
2. Juggling & Jokes
Part comedy show, part circus act, the Juggling & Jokes experience is full of play. This experience will give your team a chance to simply sit back and enjoy the show as former Andy Kaufman award winner Marcus Monroe shows his juggling skills and takes audience suggestions for what he should juggle next. Check out a video of Marcus juggling on an NYC rooftop here!
3. Workday Update
This experience includes a series of visual, interactive games designed to get your team engaged as part of a Zoom comedy show. You’ll be asked to raise your hand if a meme applies to you and decode some of the craziest office buzzwords. Get a feel for what the event is like here!
