Wondering what improv on Zoom is like?

Check Out How We’re Skill-building with Virtual Teams Using Humor

Not everything in Sales goes as planned, so how do you prepare for the unexpected?

At Laugh.Events, we’re helping Sales teams learn quick thinking through the practices of improv comedy. Last week, we were invited to host a 60-minute corporate workshop for a group of Sales team members at Splash, an event marketing software company.

For those meeting up for company offsites, we offer Professional Development workshops in-person at your office or venue, and for teams working virtually, we offer the corporate trainings on Zoom. Each training is customized around the team goals you’d like to achieve, with a series of both large and small group exercises. While these mostly look like an hour of laughter, there’s always a series of takeaways to show participants how the skills they’ve practiced can apply back to their day-to-day roles.

Workshop Goals

Here’s what the Event Organizer wanted her team to get out of the experience:

  • Remind team members that they don’t always have to have all the answers prepped in advance

  • Practice thinking on their feet

  • Learn how improv skills can be used in sales roles

  • Simply be silly and get out of their comfort zones

The Rundown

The attendees turned on cameras and microphones and began by engaging in a series of what the instructors referred to as “low pressure” warm up exercises, getting comfortable interacting on Zoom. The group then cycled through a series of breakout rooms to work in pairs, returning to the main room to regroup after each.

Check out what the attendees had to say about the experience:

“Y'all ran a really awesome session. We had a lot of laughs, tons of bigger than normal smiles, and learned a lot about what we are capable of as individuals and as a team.” – Jen Chambers

“Loved it!! I enjoyed [the instructors] and how they created a safespace.” – Meghan Martinez

“I had so much fun getting to laugh the entire hour.” – Madison Sanders

“It was refreshing. I had a rough day and that's just what I needed.” – Camilo Hernandez

& have a look at some of their favorite moments, shared in the Zoom chat:

  • Really helped us think on our feet and get creative

  • Safe place to be silly!

  • I needed this today!

  • Realizing we didn’t need to have a predefined script or be prepared

  • “Yes, and” is helpful

  • I loved that we all seemed freer towards the end of it
