Laughs for a Cause

A look into the success of our "A Comedy Show for Charity" series

  • Laugh.Events Founder Kevin Hubschmann began throwing in-person comedy shows in New York in 2019, which have now become a monthly post-work entertainment favorite, known as After-Work Comedy

  • A few months a year, Laugh.Events turns the focus to charity, hosting comedy events benefitting The Cute Syndrome Foundation, Cycle for Survival, and RFK Human Rights

  • Hubschmann explains what led to the creation of “A Comedy Show for Charity” and what he has planned for the future of the series

Since its first charity show in 2019, Laugh.Events has hosted four additional shows benefiting charitable organizations, including The Cute Syndrome Foundation, Cycle for Survival, and RFK Human Rights.

Our Founder, Kevin Hubschmann, says a live comedy show can be the perfect format for organizations looking to re-energize a sense of community. “On top of there being an actual pandemic the past few years, there was a significant impact on communities. Live events, first and foremost, are the best way to get people back into a room together when it comes to charity.”

Laugh.Events’ Advisor, Dr. Natalie Dattilo, is a Clinical Psychologist and Instructor at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Dattilo and Hubschmann have partnered up to promote the positive physical aspects of increasing moments of laughter in the workplace, and those same benefits can apply to the after-work shows. “When you’re laughing, you’re creating a positive association and a memory, which can significantly impact your connection to the cause. We also know that laughter is contagious, and can be a powerful tool for bonding and community formation," says Dr. Dattilo.

As for the future of the After-Work NYC comedy show and the charity show series, Hubschmann envisions expanding After-Work Comedy by providing opportunities for young professionals who are interested in trying stand up after their day jobs, inviting co-workers and friends to see them on a big stage, while also seeing some of the best stand up comedians in the country. Along with this, he hopes to make “A Comedy Show for Charity” a key focus. “It aligns directly with the mission of Laugh.Events After-Work, to bring together coworkers and friends, primarily by word of mouth, and form a post-work community. We're using the power of connection and community support.”
