Creating a Collaborative Workplace & The Power of Opting In

Corporate event guru reveals how providing choices can increase employee engagement

  • Splash Co-Founder Ben Hindman explains how he integrates the concept of ‘options and opt-ins’ into company culture.

  • This March, Laugh.Events is celebrating Employee Appreciation Month and offering unique options to encourage full-team engagement with corporate comedy shows, including Zoom comedy shows and corporate improv workshops.

“When you create an environment that is a welcoming place for fun, everything kind of falls into place.”

These are the wise words of Ben Hindman, Co-Founder of Splash, who shared with us why he believes that a workplace culture conducive to ‘opting in’ unleashes employee participation. “Having faith in people, when you create an environment of fun and inclusion, is when people's personalities come out. They're suddenly not as restrictive as they might be over Slack or email,” says Hindman.

Encouraging participation starts with knowing your team and staying open minded about engagement. “Every single event I've thrown, people have said, ‘engineers don't dance,’ or ‘they’re just not going to be interested in doing  a silly activity like making a raft’ as an example,” says Hindman. But you can’t underestimate your team. “Every single time, the engineers are the ‘introverts’ that will surprise them,” says Hindman.

Many businesses look at holiday party entertainment as the best way to drive employee engagement, but it’s times like now to be thinking about employee retention ideas. If entertainment is not the route you want to take, check out corporate training through improv comedy and other unique events.

Wondering how you can offer ‘opt in’ opportunities? Check out the corporate comedy events we’re featuring for Employee Appreciation Month that will have your team eager to participate.
